Warren Albert
aka: RUSTYSPINNER
Pennsylvania
I started fly fishing and fly tying as an early teenager when my
grandfather gave me my first fly rod, his old homemade vise that he used as a child, and an assortment of hooks and feathers. I have
been crazy about the sport since. After years of tying flies, I have, in the last few years, regressed to simple proven patterns that
catch fish. I like to experiment with patterns to improve their effectiveness on my local waters, but my motto still remains “Keep
it Simple.”
My home water is Oil Creek nestled deep in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. It is probably one of the most underrated
rivers in the state. A few years ago I fell in love with some of the limestoners of Central Pennsylvania and make frequent trips to
those waters, especially when the Trico’s are on the waters.
I also enjoy hosting and participating in fly swaps. Not only do you get some great patterns back from the swappers, but you meet
some great people from all over the world.

Danville's 6/0 tan. Tail:
Brown plastic canvas yarn, tied short. Abdomen:
Synthetic dubbing (tan Hare's Ear Plus). Underwing:
Camel plastic canvas yarn. Overwing:
Ginger CDC. Throat:
Butt ends of the CDC pulled back and cut short. Thorax:
Tan Superfine. Note:
This is the result of some searching for a pattern to use when the fish are
taking emergers. The body of the fly can be greased to fish it dry
or fished ungreased in the film, depending on how the fish are taking the
emerger. Note

Danville's 6/0 cream. Tail:
Ginger microfibetts, split. Body:
Strand from a synthetic hand duster, yellow. Wing:
Clear Antron yarn. Thorax:
Sulfur yellow Superfine dubbing. Note:
This pattern works great in yellow and rusty color. The synthetic hand
duster can be found at most dollar stores. The synthetic body makes a
great slim body silhouette and also adds some translucency much like the
real spinner. Select

Danville's 6/0 black. Tail:
White Microfibetts, split. Abdomen:
Black thread. Wing:
Pearl Krystal Flash. Thorax:
Black Superfine dubbing. Note:
George Harvey originated this variation using Krystal Flash for the wing as he
states it makes it easier to see on the water. I feel that not
only can you see the flies better, but the Krystal Flash is about the best
imitation of the actual Trico spinner wing as you will find. Select
