Ulrik Schou
aka: Dansker - Connecticut
and Denmark

Growing up in a small town in
Denmark, with a river almost in the backyard (500 yards), I was introduced to fishing at age
4 and got my first fly rod in 1976 at age 10. Fly tying quickly became the
only viable option, to make up for lack of casting skills!
In the beginning I used a vise made by a fishing buddy in his fathers metal shop. It was a crude device, with the need of adding small pieces of cardboard to accommodate smaller hooks (12-down). After a year of struggling, I was rewarded with a small jeweler type vise, on which I tied for 6 years, until I got suckered back into spin fishing!
Suffering through this severe
mental lapse of spin fishing, which lasted almost 10 years with only occasional
relief of the withdrawal symptoms, I did acquire some skills of a more general
fishing nature, i.e. stalking, how to avoid falling in, and so on.
I moved to the United States in 1993 and quickly "hooked up" with a couple of cane rod fanatics. I found myself wanting more of this madness, and now several thousand dollars later, my wife is trying to determine for which I have the greater passion – fly fishing/tying – or her! To me the answer is obvious… I think!
My home waters are the rivers of Connecticut and western Massachusetts. I also fish Pennsylvania while on occasional business trips. Of course I make the obligatory trips to Denmark to see family/friends/business associates and enjoy my greatest love... sea run browns of the Danish streams and coastal waters.
