Russ Krahnert
North Carolina
My college years were
put on hold when drafted into the Army and sent to Korea. After discharge
I chose not to continue my education for a sales career with a large
corporation. I worked in marketing and sales training for most of my
life.
My passion has been hunting, fishing, trapping, and camping in the outdoors since I was a youngster. When I was twelve years old I was given a fly rod and a home made fly tying vise, which increased my interest in trout fishing.
I fished the streams and lakes of New Jersey until I was twenty six, when transferred to New York. I lived in a town of about 500 residents and a great trout stream within 10 minutes away. I helped start a Boy Scout Troop, became a Scout Master, and later the District Scout Commissioner. Hunting and fishing while hiking and primitive camping were frequent activities.
I am married with 2 daughters and two sons and we used to camp and fish together as a family. I taught my youngest son how to trap muskrats. I was also very interested in gems, minerals, and prospecting so spent a lot of time in the outdoors. My sales territory allowed me to travel frequently and fish many streams in New York and Pennsylvania.
Although I have been a resident of Southern Pines, North Carolina for the past 12 years (2001) I miss New York a lot. It takes me over 4 hours to drive to North Carolina's closest trout stream but go when I can.
