Ole Hansen
Denmark

I started fishing when I was six years old, back in 1973, with the typical bobber + "red garden fly" style.  In my teens I started fly fishing, and I especially enjoy fishing for trout and grayling on small Danish streams , Atlantic salmon fishing in Sweden, and fishing for pike during the winter in Denmark.

I don't define my best moments fishing by the size of fish caught, though my favourite catch was a gorgeous 24" brown trout caught on a 3wt. outfit in heavy currents on a size 18 CDC emerger.  The biggest fish I have caught is a 20 pound pike from a local lake.

I have been tying flies for the last 16 years and think it is a great way to spend the cold winter evenings.

The photo is Ole with a Northern from the lower section of the Danish river Gudenå.

Zygo Damsel Nymph

 Tier:  Ole Hansen

Hook:  TMC 3769 size 10.
Thread:  UNI 8/0 (olive).
Tail:  Marabou fibers (olive).
Abdomen:  Hollow larva lace (clear).
Thorax:  Ostrich herl (olive).
Wingcase:  Thin skin (clear).
Eyes:  Clear bead heads (small).

Instructions:  This pattern is relatively easy to tie, though it requires some preparation prior to the actual tying.  To make the tail and abdomen section, take a 1/2" long piece of Larva Lace and insert a doubled 6" long piece of 6X monofilament into it, pull it almost through, insert 4-8 marabou fibers in the loop of the monofilament and pull it through.  Make a set of eyes by pulling two clear beads on a 2" long piece of 4X monofilament and burning it at both ends until the two eyes almost touch each other.

The actual tying process starts with tying in the eyes just behind the hook eye.  Tie in the tail and abdomen section about halfway down the shank.  At this point also tie in a 2" long and 1/4" wide piece of Thin Skin as well as a single ostrich herl.  Cover the front half of the shank with the ostrich herl (palmered) and fold the Thin Skin over and on top of it as a back.  Tie it down just behind the eyes.  Whip finish and laquer the head.
