John Grindle
Dorset, England

I'm John Grindle and I live in a small village in the county of Dorset, England.  I fish the River Frome, which is a wonderful little chalk stream full of wild trout and grayling.

I would call myself a fisherman that ties flies, rather than a fly tier that fishes.  My fly tying skills don't allow me to tie wonderful intricate flies, so I have had to resort to tying in an impressionist style.  This makes my flies easy and quick to tie and they still catch plenty of fish.

In 1995 I became Honorary Secretary to the Dorchester Fishing Club.  The club is a private one, founded in 1877, of approximately 65 members.  The club's waters consist of about 7 miles of wild brown trout and grayling fishing in the main River Frome and River Cerne, together with attendant carriers and side streams.  The waters extend both above and below the town of Dorchester and the club employs a part time keeper.  For more information visit my web site at www.grhe.co.uk.

B.W.O. Emerger

Tier:  John Grindle

Hook:   Size 14.

Body:  Amber Sow-Scud dubbing.

Hackle:  Few wraps of black hen or starling.

Note:  This fly sits on the water giving the impression of a fly struggling to hatch, and yes... the trout love it.  Dub the seal's fur very lightly and after a few cast it will create a wonderful fuzzy translucent body.
