Erik Andreasson
aka: Erik the Swede
Sweden
I am a fly tier and fly fisher
since about 1994.
Actually one of those that can't switch to fly-fishing only! As we say in Sweden "the stripes never fades away" (free
translation!).
I am over 40 and working as a nuclear engineer. Wife, two kids, a rabbit and a guinea-pig (no way these will end as tying material!). We live near the great lake Mälaren in the middle of Sweden so most of my fishing is done there for perch (Perca fluviatilis, my all-time favorite!), pike, walleye and eel. Grew up as a coarse fisherman in France (lived there for 19 years).
So what about more "noble" species?
Not that often, occasionally sea run-trout when visiting my folks in the south of
Sweden.
Tying? I am one of these self-taught sloooow ones, too many (unrealized) ideas,
collecting far too much new stuff and contemplating too much all the nice creations on the Internet. I should stop dreaming and instead improve my
casting.
On my small fly-menu here I have selected streamers of my own "designed" for perch fishing.
Of course these don't produce better than the "classics" but who doesn't like trying to reinvent the wheel!
Fly fishing for perch is not that easy, you have to locate the schools and be careful not to scratch and loose any.
If so, the hurt one will often swim away taking the rest of his buddies with him!
A final notice: As you can see none of my flies show pinched or de-barbed hooks.
The reason is that perch is my favorite fish to eat!

Tier: Erik Andreasson Body:
Epoxy with sparkle in the space between the wing and the shank. Note
1: The dove feathers are the body feathers (I
think) white to light
gray often found in the woods. They have a thick stem and most of it is marabou-liked. Note
2: Pictured to the right are two version of the Bow
Minnow. Select Another Fly:

Paper clips of plastic come in various standard and florescent colors so there is place to experiment.
The underbody color gives some nice effects combined with the pearl mylar. Select Another Fly:

Notes
1: This fly is a mix of a leech and wooly-bugger with some flash incorporated with contrast effects.
A kind of attractor leech. These
two materials (crystal flash chenille and mohair) are easy to find and
cheap. Some favorite color combos are: Purple chenille with white mohair and Orange chenille with black mohair
(good for night and dawn fishing). Select Another Fly:

Straight eyed streamer size 4-8
Thread: White
Body: Two pieces from plastic paper clips glued on top and
bottom of hook shank and then sparsely criss-cross ribbed with white nylon thread.
Superglue applied to the assembly.
Tail: Marabou or synthetic hair.
Exterior Body: Pearl mylar piping secured at tail and head

Hook: Straight eye medium shank size 8-6.
Thread: 6/0 black.
Tail: Marabou.
Body: Silver tinsel or silver braid.
Wing: Marabou (see
below).
Notes: This fly is a fresh-water variation of Joe Brooks "Blonde," tied in
smaller sizes and with marabou instead of bucktail. The marabou gives the fly some nice action in
stillwater.
The main problem is fouling so check the fly from time to time.
I use this fly primarly for perch fishing in lakes with green and blue as basic colors.
My favorite colors for perch fishing are:
Tie in a piece of silver tinsel or silver braid. Wrap back to hook point and
then forward forming a smooth body. Secure with thread and cut surplus.
Tie in the wing of marabou. Wing should extend past hook bend, and can be as long as the tail hair, if desired.
Build a small head with thread and varnish. ![]()
