Russian River (Alaska) Salmon Fly

Hook:  #4 salmon hook.
Thread:  Not sure.
Body:  Mixture of white and black yarn.
Wing:  Mixture of black, white, and yellow deer buck tail.
Head:  Thread (piled on loosely).

Note by Ed Gallop, Sr.:  Ed tied his first fly in about 1980, at the age of 5 or 6.  I wasn't aware that he was watching me tie some Russian River salmon flies until he asked if he could tie one.  I sat him in my lap, put a hook in the vise, and without any help or advice he tied the fly pictured.  He was very proud of that fly and so was I.

Pictured at below is Ed in his favorite environment... a wild trout river.  His dad took these pictures one foggy morning on the Smith River in Virginia.

This fly could pass for a shrimp as well as a crawdad.  Actually, I thought of calling it Bubba Gump's Shrimp, but decided Crawdad was more appropriate.
