Alberto Jimeno

Massachusetts

Currently I call Chelmsford, MA home and I work in Merrimack, NH.  I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic while my family was living there, but I grew up in Lima, Peru.  One of my ultimate fly fishing goals is to be able to fish the rivers and ponds of the Andes of Peru which are fished by few and harbor many species of fish.

A good friend of mine introduced me to both fly fishing and fly tying in the spring of 2000.  Some fly casting lessons from a guide and a full day of fishing after that is the extent of my formal training.  Needless to say I’m still on the learning curve, but I thoroughly enjoy myself even when my casts still plop into the water more often than I would like to admit.

I learned how to tie flies through a few books, a couple of websites, and the help of more experienced tiers at the VFS bulletin board who have answered even the most basic questions I had (and there were many!).  So far I have only tied patterns I found in books or online, but lately I have been experimenting with a few patterns that I hope will work.

Most of my fishing is targeted to rivers and ponds in northeastern Massachusetts, northeastern Connecticut, and southern New Hampshire, with occasional fishing trips to the Ausable river in upstate NY.  Some of the rivers I fish are the Quinebaug (CT), the Souhegan (NH), the Nissittissett (MA), and the Merrimack (MA).  I have no particular fish species I target.  If it swims and has gills, I’ll go try to catch it.

In the short time I have been fly fishing, I have had the luck of catching rainbow trout, brown trout, bluegills and their cousins, yellow perch, crappie, smallmouth bass, and one overzealous 7-inch pickerel that tried to eat a black foam beetle.
